Venus Explorer "Akatsuki" and Hatsune Miku aboard have begun a new journey. We want messages and illustrations to cheer JAXA!

What is this campaign?

We will print your cheer messages and illustrations on aluminum panels(the same kind of panels attached to Akatsuki) and send to JAXA.

  • Messages: Please fill a form at the bottom of this page by Jan 23rd 2011.
  • Illustrations: Planned to accept until Jan 23rd 2011. Please submit your illusration to Pixiv (http://pixiv.co.jp) and attach a tag "Akatsuki_SOMESAT".
  • SOMESAT is responsible for manufacturing the aluminum panels. It is planned to complete by around the end of Feb 2011.
  • Illustrations by KOKORORI-P and Ontama will be printed on background of the message space.
    • KOKORORI-P is a famous illustrator of a picture "Hoshi no Uta (A song of the star)", awarded the best prize of the Akatsuki panels.
    • Ontama is an original designer of Hachune Miku

Important notice before you write a message or draw an illustration!

As of Dec 13th 2010, it was verified that Akatsuki will re-approach to Venus in 6 years from now, sometime between Dec 2016 and Jan 2017. However, what actually caused the trouble is still being investigated, so it is not known if Akatsuki can enter the orbit around Venus when re-approaching.

Also, JAXA did not lose track of Akatsuki and the explorer is not lost. It is on the orbit around the sun (so is IKAROS-kun), and the communication is maintained properly.

Please remember these points.

Why we have started this campaign

Just one year ago, Dec 2009, we collected messages to put illustrations of Hatsune Miku and Hachune Miku on Akatsuki. By great help of Prof.Seichi Sakamoto of JAXA and the Akatsuki team, and thanks to 13849 people who answered the campaign, three plates of illustrations have flown into space. We thank you again. It was the first voyage to space for Miku, and many mass media kindly reported about it.

Time passed by, on Dec 7th 2010, they tried to enter Akatsuki into the orbit around Venus. It was very challenging and difficult trial, and we deeply respect members of the JAXA Akatsuki team who challenged it boldly. But unfortunately, it did not go as they hoped. We are very sorry for people who had spent nearly 10 years for Akatsuki.

But Akatsuki is sitll alive, and JAXA does not give up, examining what they can do. What a wonderful mind. Now is the time for us to again support Akatsuki and JAXA, who sent many Mikus' to the space. Of course, we are sure that Mikus' are enjoying their new journey. We hope your help.

What is SOMESAT?

It is a Japanese project to investigate reactions of the society, by launching a very small satellite called cubesat with a character (such as Hatsune Miku) aboard to space. Development would be open widely to public so that ordinary people may join. Operations of the satellites also aim to make people feel space closer to them, by executing missions associated with internet and other media. From these layered meanings, we name it SOcial MEdia SATellite, SOMESAT.

Let's launch a Hatsune Miku satellite into space!
